19 Apr Last Call Campers
The mosquitoes are poised and ready to pounce; the sweat is ready to roll off your brow. Very soon it’ll be time to crank up the a/c and invest in new beach toys and lawn chairs. Full-blown summer will be upon us before we know it and it’ll be too hot, itchy and downright uncomfortable to enjoy camping in the great outdoors. For me to say that I love to camp is a huge understatement; I live it and breath it. However, even I shudder at the thought of sleeping (attempting to sleep, I should say) in a sweat soaked sleeping bag listening to and feeling insects tear me apart.
This time of year pretty much wraps up our “camping season” before it just gets too hot. It’s not too late though! Camping gear is on sale and it usually gets below 80 degrees now at night, which is tolerable enough for me. And if you camp near a natural spring, which we are blessed to have so many of here in our great state, you have a perfect way for the whole family to cool off if it’s too hot. Don’t miss out on a great pre-summer camp this year. The flowers are blooming; animals are being born; it’s the perfect time of year to get back to nature. And it’s impromptu trips like this that make for unforgettable memories.
First: Plan your trip. There are literally thousands of places to camp in Florida, many of them free of charge. All you have to do is type a few choice words into your web browser and you’re off. If workdays are involved, make sure you let your boss know you’ll be “out of town” (guilty of that one, right here). I like to plan meals out on a “per day” basis so that you won’t be stuck out there with no food. One more thing: if you think you might need it…bring it!
Second: Gear up, pack up, load up, drive up, camp up! (Remember, getting there can be half the fun.)
And last: Take a deep breath, listen to the sounds of nature, swim, fish, enjoy your family, eat, fall asleep outside….that’s an order!
