1ST STOP- HIGHLAND PARK FISH CAMP
About: This true FL fish camp has been around for over 50 years. They have a stellar reputation for customer service and a fully equipped bait and tackle store with everything thing you need. Address: 2640 W. Highland Park Road Deland, Fl 32720
Time: 7:00AM – 8:00 AM, bass feed better early in the morning
Activity: You can bring your own rod or they will let you use one of theirs. To fish in the pond is free and only requirement is that you buy shiners for them. Shiners are the only bait that can be used to fish in the bass pond and they cost around $18.00 per dozen.
Local Tip: Bring a chair to sit in, the side of the pond closest to the store seems to be the best spot. Make sure to check out the tackle store, its full of photos from a bygone era and treasure trove of Florida wildlife biology.

Your day begins watching a video on how to snorkel and interact with manatees, then you’ll be fitted with a swimsuit, snorkel, mask, and fins. Follow your guide and hop on a pontoon boat that will take you to a designated area. You’ll quietly enter cool, spring-fed waters that are so clear that you'll be able to spot manatees in no time. If you’re lucky, these friendly and curious creatures will swim right up to you! After your tour, head to downtown Inverness to enjoy a hearty lunch and maybe do a little shopping, then spend the rest of the afternoon at Fort Island Gulf Beach Pier and watch the sunset....
